SIR ANDRÁS SCHIFF

Sir András Schiff (Budapest, 1953) attended the Franz Liszt Academy with Pál Kadosa, György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados and with George Malcolm in London. After collaborating with the world’s leading orchestras, he now focuses on solos in his recitals and projects where he performs and conducts.

Since 2004, he has staged the complete Beethoven sonatas in more than twenty cities with an acclaimed recording for the ECM label. He has also released Schubert, Schumann, Janáček and Bach albums and has become a reference in playing the latter at BBC Proms annual performances.

He performs regularly at festivals such as Verbier, Salzburg and Baden-Baden, as well as in leading halls across Europe, North America and Asia. He conducts a festival at the Olympic Theatre in Vicenza, where he founded the Cappella Andrea Barca in 1999, an orchestra with which he has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Mozartwoche in Salzburg.

He collaborates closely with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, for which he has been an Associate Artist since 2018. He supports young talents through the «Building Bridges» program and teaches at the Barenboim-Said and Kronberg Academy.

His numerous awards comprise the Gold Medal of the Mozarteum, the Grand Cross of Merit with Star of Germany, the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Medal and a knighthood title.
