Since the Festival de Pollença began in 1962 at the hands of distinguished English violinist Philip Newman, more than eight hundred of the finest artists have performed for us at the Claustre de Santo Domingo, a historic venue that exudes awe-inspiring beauty and provides excellent acoustics, the perfect setting for enjoying music under a starry night sky.
The 59th Festival de Pollença continues the historical legacy of this event, which has become unmissable for both the locals and for those who come to visit our town during the month of August.
Despite this year’s Festival being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is one of the few music events that, given the circumstances experienced in April and May, has not been written off and is still scheduled to go ahead this year. The amount of organisation and planning that has gone into this event to guarantee that it takes place has been widely acknowledged and appreciated by all cultural sectors associated with music festivals. We have worked tirelessly to ensure that the Festival complies with all government advice amid the doubt and uncertainty surrounding which cultural events are permitted and the number of venues allowed and their capacity, and, above all, to guarantee the health and safety of all who are participating in the Festival - the audience, performers, technicians, customer service, etc. As such, we have reduced the size of the 59th edition accordingly, focusing more on smaller, more intimate performances while maintaining our lofty quality standards, in addition to limiting the number of concerts as a result of the budget readjustment arising from the need to respond to the myriad health and social challenges brought about by COVID-19.
